Beverli Shearer (Art Instructor -Woodcut Art)
Beverli discovered her talent for drawing at a young age and was encouraged by friends, family and teachers to study and pursue a future in the arts. However, despite the encouragement, in 2004 she was enrolled in the Law and Security Administration program at Niagara College in Welland, where she received a Diploma in Customs and Immigration. It was during this time that she realized her desire and passion for creating, and decided that she did in fact want to be an artist.
In 2008, she picked up and moved to Toronto to study art, and hasn’t looked back since. Beverli graduated from the Ontario College of Art & Design University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Drawing and Painting, and a minor in Printmaking in 2013.
Based on observation, performance and personal experience, her work combines the female body, sexuality, and the art of body modification in meticulously rendered photo-quality drawings in pencil and coloured pencil. Through use of collage inspired fragmented photographs, juxtaposition of black and white with colour, and Photoshop processes, she creates compositions as reference for medium scale illusionistic drawings on paper.
Beverli’s goal for the future is to gain a career in the arts and continue to learn and grow as an artist while sharing her skills and knowledge with others who are passionate about art.
